7 Where to Begin Decide upon which programs to apply Choose institutions that offer the programs Ensure you are enrolled in the correct prerequisites in order to qualify for chosen program Achieve appropriate grades in order to qualify Important website to help you plan educationplanner.ca

8 Admission Requirements University Specific to institution, faculty or program Minimum level of achievement Fill seats from highest achieving students until all seats are filled Application deadline must be met (February 28 in B.C. for most PSIs)

9 Admission Requirements Colleges, Trades Programs & Institutes Typically seats filled on a FIRST COME, FIRST QUALIFIED, FIRST SERVED Some programs are now COMPETITVE Opening dates are important Minimum grades in specific subjects may be required May have other specific requirements May not need high school graduation for some programs

10 Application Process Choose institutions to which you will apply Research their application procedure Collect necessary information (transcripts, predicted grades, portfolio, reference letters) Apply on-line (applybc.ca) or by mail Await conditional acceptance Pay registration deposit Register for courses on the date allocated Continue to achieve best grades possible!

11 How does APPLYBC work? Create a student account Common form *personal information *needs to be filled out only once Institution specific application *select preferred program *start date *pay institution application fee

12 Housing Universities and some colleges have student housing. Check for application opening date. First come, first serve. Now some institutions guarantee housing for first year students. A deposit is required. The housing application is separate from admission. Many options available (e.g. meal plans, shared/single rooms)

15 Provincial Scholarships Exams To be eligible for BC government Scholarship of $1000… Competitive (top 5000 students in BC) Must have min. 73% in English 12 (provincial exam & school mark) (Ending in 2015-16)

16 Provincial Scholarships Exams To be eligible for BC government Scholarship of $2500… Competitive (top 20 students) Based on exam percentage score Academic Medal of Excellence awarded to students who achieve 100% in all 5 provincial exams. (Ending in 2015-16)

18 Provincial District/Authority Awards Number of awards vary each year. Candidates must have demonstrated superior achievement in an area. Isfeld teachers nominate candidates.

19 BC Excellence Scholarship $5000 Competitive (top 55 students) Based on demonstrated community service & leadership in school and community. Must exemplify competency in variety of areas. School will nominate one student.

20 BC Achievement Scholarship $1250 3000 awards for 2015-16 year. Based on students’ achievement in Grades 10, 11, and 12 courses. Must attain 73% or better in English 12, Communications 12 or English 12 First Peoples.

21 Financial Aid Student Loans * government loans given to students demonstrating financial need; students are considered a dependent for 48 months following high school graduation * interest free while in full time study Work Study * programs funded by some institutions for those who are loan recipients and demonstrate financial need Co-op Programs * students may apply for a work term related to their field of study usually after their second year

22 Financial Aid Scholarships Provincial & University/College * based on academic achievement Organizations * rigorous application process based on academics and other achievements – check with employers to see if they offer any scholarships for dependents Sports

24 Isfeld Bursaries Listings available beginning of Feb. Online or pick up in office Deadline is March 11 at 3:30. Preparation information will be presented during PLC times from October – February.
