3 Children’s exposure to media: Because of their color, excitement, and graphic images, media can have a strong influence on children. 83% of children under 6 years old use some form of screen media On average they spend 2 hours with a television and DVD player, 1 hour with video games, and 50 minutes with a computer They watch 4,000 hours of TV before they enter kindergarten Exposed to 20 to 25 acts of violence per hour on Saturday morning TV programs intended for children Source: Kaiser Family Foundation: The Media Family.

8 Children’s Media Guidelines Your assignment:20 pts Create a checklist for parents of various age children to use as guidelines for their children: (Time limits, Language, Violence, Sexual Content…) List 5-7 recommendations for responsible use of the media by children. Address or include at least 3 types of media (ie: TV, Video Games, Movies) in your guidelines for 3 different age groups: Infant/toddlers - birth to 3 Preschoolers- 3-5 Young children- 6-10
