SOLAR ENERGY PRESENTED BY GSV RAMESH BABU, GUNTUR ENGINEERING COLLEGE 2 nd MECHANICAL.

DEFINITION Solar energy means using the energy of sunlight to provide electricity, to heat water, and to heat or cool homes, businesses or industry. Introduction to Topic Solar Energy: Today the world is facing number of problems. The world is coming closer at high rate. Also with such high We have always used the energy of the sun as far back as humans have existed on this planet. We use the sun’s energy every day in many different ways. Plants use the sun’s light to make food. Animals eat plants for food. As we know that decaying plants hundreds of millions of years ago produced the coal, oil and natural gas that we use today. So, fossil fuels is actually sunlight stored millions and millions of years ago. Speed energy is consuming.

CONVERSION

Classification of Energy Sources: Energy sources can be classified on various basis. we will use Renewable Energy Sources and Non- Renewable Energy. Solar energy is Non- Renewable Energy. Availability of Solar Energy: On a clear day, at the Earth’s surface, we are receiving Solar Power at about 1 kilowatt per square meter. As each part of the planet turns toward the Sun, on a ‘sunny’ day roughly 800 - 1000 watts of power per square meter are received at ground.

Conversion of Solar Energy into Electrical Energy

Conversion Conversion of solar energy into one or more forms of energy is an important priority today. The earth receives 170 pet watts of solar radiation. 30% is reflected into space and the rest is absorbed by the earth. Most of the solar radiation falls in the visible to near infrared region of electromagnetic spectrum with a small amount in the ultraviolet region. Today most nanometres based energy conversion focuses on converting solar energy into electrical energy

How Solar Power Works There are several ways to use the sun’s power to generate electricity. One of the most promising is called concentrating solar power. This involves using mirrors to reflect and focus the sun’s rays, providing heat, which in turn helps power a generator. Another is photovoltaic panels, such as the displays on the rooftops of homes and office buildings (some of these displays, especially in California, have experienced problems with theft). Solar energy is also used to heat water and pools — and of course a properly designed house will optimize the light and heat qualities of as it floods through the windows. Making a solar panel, also known as a solar module, requires four main steps. The first is to use molten polysilicon to grow crystals or cast blocks of polycrystalline silicon. The second step is cutting and polishing the material into thin, smooth wafer.

Various Ways Which Allows Us to Use Solar Energy: Solar Cell / Photovoltaic Cell. Solar Cars / solar aircraft. Solar Water Heater. Solar Cooker. Solar Lightning. Solar Water Pumping. Solar Dryer.

SOLAR CAR

Advantages of Solar Energy: No air pollution. No danger of increasing global warming. Ease of use. Available at large quantity. Available at most of places in plenty. Long lasting, never ending. Renewable.

Disadvantages of Solar Energy: High initial cost of equipments. Needs large collection areas. Not constant all the days. Collection is not easy.

Conclusion of “Solar Energy”: We must all conserve energy and use it efficiently. It’s also up to those who will create the new energy technologies of the future. All energy sources have an impact on the environment. Concerns about the greenhouse effect and global warming, air pollution, and energy security have led to increasing interest and more development in renewable energy sources such as solar, wind, geothermal, wave power and hydrogen.
