2 Benchmark assessments
mClass Reading 3D /DIBELS- is a basic early literacy measurement tool designed to provide data that documents the growth of students as they acquire literacy skills. BOY, MOY, EOY – Reading 3D/DIBELS is administered three times a year: at the beginning of the year (BOY), middle of the year (MOY), and end of the year (EOY). Timed Assessments – Reading 3D/DIBELS uses 60 second measures & 3 minute measures that are easy, reliable, repeatable, and sensitive to growth and change. It also uses open ended timed calculations to determine fluency and accuracy rates in reading. 3rd Grade Areas assessed - DIBELS Oral Reading Fluency and Accuracy with Retell (DORF) Reading Comprehension with DIBELS MAZE (DAZE) Text Reading and Comprehension (TRC)

3 Parent Connection – Literacy report
“running Man report” What this means? 1- Overview – explains the students overall combined “composite” score and performance 2- Measures – show how each area relates to skill development and provides examples and meaning 3- Results – color coded guides to show how your child performed on each measure – Your child’s performance is the “running man”

“running Man report” What this means? 4- Activities – explains targeted activities to help your child at home advance in their reading development *These reports will be sent home 3 times a year after each Benchmarking period – (BOY, MOY, & EOY).

5 Science and Social Studies
Language Arts Reading Daily 5 – modified instruction in small groups Assessments – based on 3rd grade curriculum Nightly reading is required Writing 3 forms covered: narrative, opinion, informative Science and Social Studies Science and Social Studies are integrated into our reading and math lessons weekly.

6 Math Common Core stresses understanding “why?”
You child needs to be able to write to explain answers to math problems. Focus has shifted from just memorizing things. Student need to have a deeper understanding of “how” and “why” to solve the problems. For example students will not only be asked: 5X3=15 They will also be asked: “Sam planted 5 rows of carrots with 3 in each row. How many carrots did he plant? Explain your answer” Example Test
