1 2016-2017 WELCOME! Open House Presentation

2 Dear Parents, Welcome to the 2016-2017 school year at Vista del Sol Elementary. As partners in your child’s education, we are looking forward to another rewarding and successful year for your child. “We are Conquerors!”

3 Kindergarten7:30-2:30 Grades 1-57:30-3:15 School Hours 7:30 am- Music playing signals students to come into their classroom. 7:40 am- Warning bell 7:45 am- Tardy bell Please bring your child by 7:30 so that they can have enough time to enjoy their breakfast.

4 Please use parking lot to drop off your child grades 1-5 in the back playground between 7:15- 7:40 Please sign-in your child at the front desk if they arrive at 7:45 or later Arriving at School

5 Dismissal 2:30 pm- Kindergarten students will exit through the Eagles nest 3:15 pm-  Students grades 1-2 will line up at the Eagles’ nest.  Students grades 3-5 will line up at the front of the school Due to student safety, students should be picked up on time and at their dismissal location.

6 Being at school on time is very important for the student’s education. Consequences for tardies within a four week period: 1 st tardy – warning 2 nd tardy – letter sent home 3 rd tardy – phone call to parent 4 th tardy – office referral for lunch detention Reward for zero tardies is a free dress day on Friday—Must follow dress code 10 tardies within a school year will equal loss of perfect attendance awards and incentives Tardies

7 Make it Count Campaign! Attendance is very important for your child’s academic success. House Bill 5: Students must be present 90% of time in the classroom. Student cannot be absent for more than 17 days in the school year. Young people who attend school and study learn more!

8 UNIFORM INFORMATION: Royal blue, canary yellow polo shirt is recommended. White polo shirts will also be allowed. A minimum of one shirt with the logo is encouraged for field trips. Navy or khaki pants, shorts, or skorts with 4 pockets Shoes should be appropriate for P.E. activities (No flip flops or high heels) 4 pocket JEANs are not allowed except for when a student earns free dress. FREE DRESS DAY can be earned if a students is not tardy for the week or has not received an office referral. Students must follow dress code on free dress days. You may purchase the polo shirts with the logo at Sports World located at 11440 B1 Montwood. 9 Hair must be a natural color. (no highlights, green, blue or pink hair). Earrings should not be large or dangling No make up.(mascara, eyeliner, lipstick or gloss) No flip flops or high heels Skirts and shorts must not be longer than the length of the finger tips at arms length. 10 Kindergarten Grades shall be based on a developmental scale aligned to state standards and guidelines. 1Did Not Meet Standard 2Approaching Grade Level Standards 3Met Standard 4Commended Performance 1 st -5 th Grades Grades are based on percentages on a scale of 100 with 70% being passing. In grades 1-6, promotion to the next grade level shall be based on an overall average of 70% on a scale of 100 based on course level, grade-level standards (TEKS) for all subject areas and a grade of 70% or above in language arts, reading, mathematics, science, and social studies. 11 Achievers Honor Roll A numerical score of 80-100 in all subject areas and satisfactory grades in conduct for all subject areas. Scholars Honor Roll A numerical score of 90-100 in all subject areas and satisfactory grades in conduct for all subject areas. Incentives will be available at the end of the nine weeks and at the end of the year awards assembly for Honor Roll. Honor Roll
