2 Radio 1920: Westinghouse’s KDKA offered regular nightly broadcasts 1923: 600 stations licensed by the Dept. of Commerce Advertisers paid the cost of production and broadcast of programs

3 Radio cont’d. Westinghouse executive: Harry P. 4 Charlie Chaplin Charlie Chaplin is known as one of the best comedians ever. He did many silent movies that made everyone get a good laugh. Charlie Chaplin was a great Comedian/ Actor During 1912, Chaplin came to the America where he was noticed by Mack Sennett, head of the Keystone Studios, and signed a contract with them

5 Harry Houdini Magician during 1920’s formed his own production company called the Houdini Picture Corporation Master escape artist in his magic tricks

6 Movies The first movies where filmed in New Jersey now the films of the time were being made at the first 20 Hollywood studios "The Big Five" consisted of Warner Brothers Pictures, MGM, RKO (Radio- Keith-Orpheum) Pictures, Famous Players- Lasky, and Fox Film Corporation

7 Movie Stars Biggest stars were Douglas Fairbanks and Mary Pickford Mary Pickford was the first start to become a millionaire in 1916. Married each other after divorcing previous spouses. Fairbanks starred in The Mark of Zorro (1920) and Robin Hood (1922)
