3 The Southwest To the east, the Painted Desert National Park The Petrified Forest within this park To the south, the Sunset Crater Volcano National Park To the west, Hoover Dam (named after President Herbert Hoover) and Lake Mead the Sunset Crater Volcano National Park

4 The Northwest To the far north, Yellowstone National Park, the oldest of the national parks and one of the largest, being almost 8985sq km in area. (established in 1872) Grand Teton National Park Bryce Canyon National Park Yellowstone National Park

5 The Rocky Mountains All of the places mentioned so far to the west of the Rocky mountains, which are themselves worth touring. The streams in the Rockies are a trout fisherman ’ s paradise. In the winter, skiing down mountain slopes is the major attraction.

6 The Pacific Coast To the west of the Rocky Mountains, towards the Pacific coast, there is in the south a stretch of desert area that suddenly becomes verdant in the Imperial Valley of California. In the very north part, Olympia National Park, the location of a completely fascinating temperate rain forest, and the Cascade Range and the St. Helens Eruption. Farther south, Yosemite National Park Human creations, Hollywood and Disneyland Yosemite National Park

7 The Middle West In the north part, Mt. Rushmore, the National Monument. To the south of it, the mighty Mississippi River. the Mississippi River

8 Florida Mild climate all year The western side of Florida lies on the Gulf of Mexico. One interesting beach on the Gulf Coast is Sanibel Island. Farther south is the Everglades, an area south of Lake Okeechobee Stretching south of Miami towards Cuba is a chain of islands called the Florida Keys, connected by a series of bridges called the Overseas Highway. the Florida Keys

9 The Southeast The southern states: Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina and Virginia Famous beach resorts: Mytle Beach, Hilton Head Island and Kiawa Island The first battle of the American Civil War in April 1861, Fort Sumter National Park Lookout Mountain, the best mountain for viewing many different states Antietam in Maryland and The larger Gettysburg in Pennsylvania, Biltmore Estate for historians Lookout Mountain

10 The Northeast The Blue Ridge Mountains extend up through North Carolina to Virginia, but most visitors will stay along the Eastern seaboard to enjoy the Outer Banks, where deep sea fishing is a major attraction. Kitty Hawk in the Outer Banks In the north, Cape Cod Farther north of the Cape, beaches are few and far between, as the coast becomes more precipitous and rocky along the Maine coast to Canada. The Green Mountains, one range of the Appalachian of mountains. The mountain system of the Northeast has several distinct chains. Close to the Green Mountains of Vermont lies, to the west, the White Mountains of New Hampshire.

11 New York State The Adirondack Mountains contain some of the oldest rocks in the world. And Mount Marcy, and Whiteface Mountain. Lakes: Lake Placid and Schroom Lake The western part of New York State contains a natural wonder comparable to the Grand Canyon: Niagara Falls Niagara Falls

12 Urban Scenes Different and distinctive urban centers from San Diego to Boston, from Seattle to Miami. Cities have zoos, aquariums, museums, and shopping areas, etc. Each city has a unique atmosphere: the architecture, the pace of pedestrian traffic, etc.
