Fitness: Medium to low The Project: Activities vary - normally consist of monitoring the dolphins (i.e. behavior, feeding, daily habits, reaction to humans, numbers, photos of dolphin pods), monitoring tourist numbers / behavior (to get seasonal figures), research and monitor coral reefs, research women’s coastal activities, monitor curio shell collection, teach English, develop and maintain local resource Centre. 3 Flights: STA booking forms. Group flight. Visa / Passport: 30-90 day tourist visa. Obtain prior to arrival. A$95. 5-10 days. Valid Passport. An additional volunteer visa – on arrival (US$200). 5 Excursions Always check your plans with the Site Manager. Visit Mikumi and Ruaha National Parks (mainland) - organised tour. Serengeti National Park (mainland) – organised tour. Snorkelling / Diving – incredible! Jozani Forest – Monkeys (20 minutes away) Spice Tour / Stone Town tour (40 minutes away) Traditional BBQ Swim in perfect waters Chill out CIS advise not to catch ferry to mainland (Dar es Salaam) on weekends. 6 Volunteering: Expect the unexpected. Not everything will be as you expected. Things will go wrong. You will be challenged. How will you respond? Culture: Soak it up. Things will be different, not ‘wrong’. Try new things, meet new people. History, politics, society. Ask questions, engage, contribute, take the time to talk with people, understand differences and similarities, build relationships Learn about yourself – your strengths and weaknesses. A great opportunity for your first marine / dolphin conservation experience. Use as your base to benchmark.
