Setting up your final piece ideas Setting up your ideas in this way gives you space to try out things and show the inspiration for it in a clear way which gains more marks. Idea comments: Why, how etc... General testing and any detail drawings PHOTOS NEEDED Final comments: What now? Process: 1.Choose what work in your book you will base it on. 2.Draw it out. (for 3D do designs and then maquettes) 3.Add reference images to planning page. 4.Complete final piece idea to a good quality 5.Make final comments, in order to decide on next idea

Final Piece idea How would the Artist influence this Art work? 1.Style 2.Techniques 3.Idea/concept 4.Colours 5.Use of lines/ texture 6.Use of light and dark 7.Contrasting effects? What idea within the theme would you explore in the Art work? Lesson Aim: Planning out your final piece idea for your project TASK: Set up a bubble diagram on half a page and then make additional stems with ideas based on the questions.. Materials you plan to use and why (how do they add to the effect you are trying to create?) Describe and roughly sketch your idea for the final piece (thumbnail sketch)

A,B and C for final piece ideas A Research: A mind map variety of images and testing that show the student has considered every detail in their response: Theme, Artist influence, materials, style, mood, techniques. Idea: Has intelligently developed their interests forward from their first idea into an image that is refined. The artist influence is inventive and visually enhances the theme of the idea. B Research: A mind map and images that show the student has thought carefully about their response : Theme, Artist influence, mood, style. Idea: Has a clear progressive link to work previously done in their project and considers what would look most interesting. The Artist influence is appropriate and clear to see. C Research: A mind map and images that show the student has an appropriate idea for their response : Theme, Artist influence, mood. Idea: Links to previous work in the project. The Artist influence is present and visible.

A,B and C for final piece ideas A Quality: Your work has an interesting composition that is well balanced and a well proportioned focal point. Your background and foreground are interrelated and present a seamless scene. You have used materials in a more complex manner which is demanding of your skill set. You have worked carefully with complex tonal ranges and colour mixing. The piece has refined details, including different marks for the textures and careful attention to the edges of the objects. B Quality: Your work has an interesting composition in which the focal point is clear and of a prominent size. Your background is suitable and considered. You have used materials which are appropriate to the effect you planned. You have worked carefully and have used colour theory and a range of tones. The piece is reasonably detailed with some good mark making for textures. C Quality: Your work shows a clear focal point which is well sized to draw attention. Your background has been planned and generally suits the focal point. You have used the materials that you planned and have handled then with reasonable success. On the whole, your work is carefully made and you have used colour mixing and shading. A good proportion on your work has careful detail.

Second Final Piece idea: What now? You need to start the planning page for your second idea for your final piece. In this lesson you will: Improve your understanding of what work level meets the A,B and C mark criteria. Plan out what will be in your final piece idea in a mind map ready to create the piece over the holidays. Use the mind map questions to plan out your second final piece idea. Idea comments: Why, how etc... General testing and any detail drawings PHOTOS NEEDED Final comments: What now?

‘A’ Grade 1.A personal that shows student interest. 2.Comments explaining thought process. 3.Actual imagery to work from. 4.Clear Artist influence 5.Lots of practise prep and experiments.

Clear development of theme and progress between the two final piece ideas. How else would you practise your final piece for this idea?

Now what? Choosing your final piece to develop more…… AO3 marking criteria Record ideas, observations and insights relevant to their intentions in visual and/or other forms. How are you going to show what you intend to develop?

Improving your final idea development Aim: Improve your understanding of how to produce your final piece through more challenging working drawings or media experiments. Outcome: Complete some more working drawings or media experiments so that it is clearer how and what you will do for your final piece. Our ideas for these pieces: Composition ideas. Drawings that practise what you find difficult. Drawings/ paintings that practise areas of detail. Colour/ tonal experiments. Media experiments. Media combination experiments. Which of these that you haven’t yet done would be beneficial to do this week?

Improving your skills and knowledge towards your final piece Lesson Aim: Based on your teacher feedback, work on a media experiment or working drawing that helps to make progress on the question you asked on your mark sheet last lesson. Questions for the end: How does it compare to previous knowledge or pieces? What has gone well this lesson? What needs more work in tomorrow’s lesson. Progress: Doing work on the individual target on your feedback sheet. Using the resources and your own judgement to concentrate on that skill or experiment. Improve your knowledge and ability in this area so you feel it is better that what you have previously done on it in the project.
