Today’s Objective The student will become familiar with opportunities to explore major, minor, and career options; gain understanding of the Degree Audit Reporting System (DARS); and understand the requirements of the graduation plan.

Guest Speaker Judy Lynch Director Academic Assistance Center

What is DARS? DARS (Degree Audit Reporting System) analyzes a student’s progress towards a specific degree. Completed K-State coursework and transfer credits will appear in DARS. This system can be likened to blueprints. Once the “plans” or courses are complete, you are ready to begin building your career with your earned degree.

Prerequisites, Corequisites, Limitations, Requirements, Etc. All information regarding requisites, semester limitations, and requirements can be found in the undergraduate catalog. You are expected to consult this resource as you piece together your graduation plan.

Graduation Plan The benefit of your graduation plan is not to simply have your classes ready to “plug in” when you meet with your advisor, rather, it is a road map to ensure that you have the opportunities for involvement, professional development, and academic growth needed to excel (think interested organizations, minors, study abroad opportunities, leadership roles, etc.)

Graduation Plan Step 1: Start at the end. What is your timeline? When do you hope to graduate? – 4 Years (8 semesters | including current one) avg. ≈ 16 hours per semester – 5 Years (10 semesters | including current one) avg. ≈ 13 hours per semester Step 2: Place your Student Teaching semester in your last semester (this will be the last course graduation).

Grad Plan Reminders Refer to the Undergraduate Catalog for semesters offered and course prerequisites. Include Crucial Milestones in your plan (see Class 6 in KSOL: Canvas)! Your plan will likely need to be updated EVERY semester! Summer is NOT a full semester. If you choose to do summer classes, plan on taking no more than 6 hours per summer session. YOU MUST SUBMIT A GRAD PLAN AND MEET WITH YOUR ADVISOR TO PASS THIS COURSE!!!

Collaborative Work Session Work collaboratively in groups with your ambassador to create a rough draft of your graduation plan. This will allow you the opportunity to ask guiding questions and seek assistance in locating appropriate resources.
