2 Purpose of the Collections Statutory Duty - For schools to return Early Years Foundation Stage Profile, Year 1 Phonics and Key Stage 1 data to the Local Authority Statutory Duty – For Local Authorities to Return Data to the Department for Education (DfE) As in previous years the Local Authority will collect Key Stage 2 and 3 teacher assessments for all maintained schools and submit them to the Standards and Testing Agency (STA). Academies are required to make their own submission to the STA.

3 Changes in 2013 Early Years Foundation Stage Profile - Restructured Year 1 Phonics – As last year but also include those pupils in Year 2 who did not meet the required level last year or who did not take the check. Key Stage 1 – Minimal changes from 2012 Key Stage 2 – Restructure of tests and reporting Key Stage 3 – Minimal changes from 2012

4 Changes in EYFS Profile 17 Early Learning Goals Pupils assessed as 1 - Emerging 2 - Expected 3 - Exceeding A - Absent 3 short narratives (not required to be submitted to the LA) Summary to parents

7 Year 1 Phonics Phonics Check – w/c 17 June 2013 but pupils absent can take the check until 28 June 2013 Who should take the phonics screening check? Year 1 Pupils Year 2 pupils who did not meet the required standard or did not do the check in Year 1. However it is possible to withdraw a child from the check if:- A child is working below the level of the phonics screening test or a child is new to the country and cannot yet speak confidently in English.

9 Key Stage 1 Key Stage 1 has changed little since last year However the code “NOTSEN” should be used to report teacher assessments for a child working below level 1 who does not have a special educational need. “NOTSEN” replaces the code “EAL” that was used in previous years. For schools that have signed up to the Data Team’s SLA, we will produce your reports to parents.

10 Pupils Starting/Leaving School EYFSP and KS1 If a child starts a new school before the summer half-term holiday, the new school must report the results to the LA. If a child starts a new school during the second half of the summer term, the old school must report the results. This includes pupils who transfer to a new school during the holiday.

12 Key Stage 2 Academies need to submit their results directly to the Standards and Testing Agency (STA) Submission deadline brought forward New English grammar, punctuation and spelling tests Pupils will receive separate test results for grammar, punctuation and spelling, reading and maths. Pupils writing will still be subject to teacher assessment judgement.

13 Key Stage 2 continued Level 3-5 and Level 6 tests. 14 Pupils Starting/Leaving School Key Stage 2 For a pupil who transfers from one school to another in the summer term, it is the responsibility of the school at which the pupil was enrolled when the tests were administered to submit the teacher assessments. This may require the school to obtain teacher assessments from the pupil’s previous school.

18 Dually Registered Pupils Children attending a pupil referral unit or hospital school are not subject to assessment. Children still on the register at a maintained school but studying at a pupil referral unit or hospital school are required to be assessed, and the results should be reported by the home school.

19 Good Practice - Reminders Plan your time, agree a date with your teaching staff when the data is likely to be ready Ensure any changes agreed in the moderation, have been made Ensure that all the pupils have been accounted for (including those who have recently left or are dually registered) Check for pupils leaving in the summer term Ask the teacher(s) to check your data before it is submitted.
