Snapshot of the Field: Forum Member Institutions Inclusion of international education in the mission statements:  U.S. institutions (- 12% yes)  Host institutions (+18% yes) & U.S.-based providers (+6% yes) Pressures felt regarding rising costs and declining resources:  U.S. institutions (- 10% yes) and host institutions (- 24% yes)  U.S.-based program providers (+6% yes) What do you think contributed to these changes?

(Figure 8; p.13) How is this helping?  A majority of institutions continue to identify students’ learning outcomes for education abroad. (Figure 6; p.12)  Fewer institutions report plans to assess these outcomes beyond program assessments. What can help this change? (Figure 7; p. 12)

Increasing Participation in Education Abroad  For U.S. private institutions experiencing same or decreased growth in participation, what are the reasons or factors?

Why has “Increasing the Diversity of Programs offered” risen to the top? (Table 2; p. 9)

Strategic Discussion  If you are employing multiple strategies, are you spreading too thin or does this diversity of strategies work?  By doing similar set of strategies as other respondent groups do you gain momentum from these concerted efforts?  “Exploring new models to provide greater access to a greater diversity of students” was a new option in 2015, and many marked they use this strategy. What is your experiences on this?

The strategy to increase financial support for students is 4 th in the list and used by majority of US institution and providers.  What is working? What can still be done? Policy changes seem to be the least used strategy.  Why are these the least attempted?  What are some of the policy change strategies that are taking hold or being attempted now?

National associations and large universities help to create a focus on these larger to tackle strategies that campuses then can implement. Program Profiles for Third-Party Providers Third-party providers include Consortia and Independent Program Providers Cooperation with third-party providers has increased since 2007 The most common program profile offered through third-party providers are programs with at least one course designed for EA students. Long-term faculty led programs are also popular, followed by exchanges, direct enrollment, and short- term faculty led programs in that order.

Paying for Programs: Study Abroad Program Costs Remain Top Concerns in 2015 Key Findings: 44% respondents indicate students pay program directly (+9%*) Double the number of students paying home tuition + fee + room & board (16%*) 35% respondents indicate students pay study abroad administrative fee (+5%*) 15% respondents indicate students pay administrative fee other than study abroad (-6%*) *% change from 2007 Report

27 Financial Support for Study Abroad Noteworthy Trends: Overall increase in study abroad scholarships Reductions of student fees for affiliated institutions by provider and overseas hosts reported per student and by volume discount 70% of US based program providers and 47% of overseas hosts report offering individual scholarships Approximately half of US based program providers reported scholarships for affiliated partners Decrease in rebates from US based program providers
