Presentiment and Remote Viewing Beetsterzwaag 28 maart 2008 Eva Lobach

Intro Eva Lobach Psychology Research Methods M.Sc. 1999 Research projects on parapsychological subjects, intuition and decision making (1999 – present) Ph.D. project with Prof. Dr. Dick Bierman on intuitive decision making.

Bloot Toeval = The three fates, who spin, draw out and cut the thread of Life Naked Fate or Naked Chance?

Presentiment and Remote Viewing OUTLINE Presentiment What is it How is it studied Conclusions Remote Viewing What is it How is it studied Conclusions Experiment

PRESENTIMENT – What is it? A vague sense of impending doom

PRESENTIMENT – What is it? -Sensing the future…. -Is the future fixed or fully undetermined (or something in between?) -If we know something about the future, does that mean it is predetermined?

PRESENTIMENT – How do we study it? Experimental set up -Computer shows pictures in random order -Neutral pictures, emotional pictures (e.g. violent pictures, erotic scenes) -Participant hooked up to physiological instruments: skin conductance, EEG -Participant has no conscious knowledge of future pictures

PRESENTIMENT – How do we study it?

Presentiment in the brain – experimental setup

PRESENTIMENT – How do we study it? flash no flash z pre = 2.72, p = 0.007 (two-tailed)

PRESENTIMENT – Conclusions -Caveat: We only find these results some of the time with some of the people -Still the total results show there is something interesting going on -Our senses seem to be able to sense the future….

REMOTE VIEWING – What is it? ‘Seeing’ something from a distance… e.g. the military operations of the Russian Army in Siberia. No kidding: the CIA has done research for many years on precisely this topic in the so-called Stargate project (1970-1995). Other types of remote viewing: Describing and drawing a picture that will appear on the computer screen, or that is hidden in an envelop. In the US people can do classes in Remote Viewing, so it appears like this is a skill that can be developed by training.

REMOTE VIEWING – How do we study it? Remote viewer has to draw or describe a picture (the ‘target’) that is not visible by normal means. An independent judge decides how similar the drawing is to the ‘target’.

REMOTE VIEWING – How do we study it? Example Drawing by remote viewerTarget

Remote viewing has shown remarkable and convincing results. Is however not precise and predictable enough for military purposes. It appears that people can train their remote viewing skills. I am not aware of research that shows that this is indeed the case. REMOTE VIEWING – Conclusions

Combination of Remote Viewing and Presentiment. Two envelops that each contain one picture. A flip of a coin will determine which envelop will be opened. Describe and/or draw what the picture will be that is contained in the envelop that chance (or fate?) will choose. Have FUN! EXPERIMENT
