Retention Always remember that the number one reason why boys stay is because you have a GREAT program! Use the online Pack and Den Meeting guides to help you craft a GREAT program. http://www.scouting.org/Home/CubScouts/Leaders/D enLeaderResources/DenandPackMeetingResourceG uide.aspx http://www.scouting.org/Home/CubScouts/Leaders/D enLeaderResources/DenandPackMeetingResourceG uide.aspx 2

Summertime Pack Award June is the first month of Summertime Pack Award. Download from here http://www.scouting.org/filestore/pdf/33748.pdf and keep track of the boys. http://www.scouting.org/filestore/pdf/33748.pdf Remember for Scouters and Scouts to earn the award, they need to participate in one activity each month. Making 3 columns on a piece of paper or the back of the application labeled June, July and August and then taking attendance in each column for each activity makes the paperwork easier. 3

Keep Parents Informed Announce to parents any other events for June and July. 4

Parades are Great If your Town has a patriotic parade, make sure you have signed up to be in it. Boys should be in Class A uniforms for this. 5

Scouts Who Go to Camp Stay Longer If your Pack is going to resident or day camp, make sure that medical forms are completed and collected. Stay in touch with parents about any changes or requirements. Camp Carpenter http://www.nhscouting.org/summer- camp-registration/cub-scout-summer-camp- programs/45683 has one of the highly rated Cub Camps in the nation.http://www.nhscouting.org/summer- camp-registration/cub-scout-summer-camp- programs/45683 6

Webelos I Special Note Webelos I special note. Griswold Scout Reservation (GSR) has a Webelos Wednesday day activity that can be used so the Webelos Scout experiences the awesomeness of GSR. Details are at page 52, left column at http://www.nhscouting.org/document/gsr-hidden- valley-scout-camp-2014-leaders-guide/119101) http://www.nhscouting.org/document/gsr-hidden- valley-scout-camp-2014-leaders-guide/119101 7

Webelos I at Carpenter Camp Carpenter also has a Webelos Thursday overnight while your Pack is staying at Carpenter. 8

Outreach Make sure your Social Media Scouter is documenting all the activities on your website and/or Facebook page. https://present.me/view/193007-pr- vs-marketing-for-recruitment is one reference if the Scouter is new to the position.https://present.me/view/193007-pr- vs-marketing-for-recruitment Inform parents of the Pack’s annual planning session and invite them. Parents are part of the Scouting Family and opening up the planning is beneficial to have them more involved. 9

Recruitment Hopefully you have planned your June Recruitment activity that was discussed earlier (https://present.me/view/193009-spring-olympics- cub-recruitment was one example) and are holding that event this month.https://present.me/view/193009-spring-olympics- cub-recruitment Remember part of the recruitment phase is to have a Pack/Den activity for the new boys each month until September. 10

Check the School Hopefully you have planned your June Recruitment activity that was discussed earlier (https://present.me/view/193009-spring-olympics- cub-recruitment was one example) and are holding that event this month.https://present.me/view/193009-spring-olympics- cub-recruitment Remember part of the recruitment phase is to have a Pack/Den activity for the new boys each month until September. 11

We Have an Impatient D.E. If you have not let Mark Callahan (Mark.Callahan@scouting.org) know your September Round-up/Rally day, time, and place; please do so a.s.a.p.Mark.Callahan@scouting.org 12

Bring out the Big Guns Cubmaster or assistant cubmaster should visit each Den meeting and promote recruitment. An untapped market is younger siblings of current scouts. Having someone else than the Den Leader may make more of an impression in doing this. 13
