I’m Here We have just finished Night by Elie Wiesel. Professor Wiesel, a humanitarian, has spoken out on many occasions explaining that he wrote the book to get the message out about silence and how harmful inaction and being a bystander can be. Half the battle is getting the message out, communicating about our lives and who we are.

Today We are going to watch an MTV documentary about young people during the Holocaust. We will hear about what it meant for them to communicate to the outside world, to others and their peers. Write down any potential quotes you may want to use about silence in the project you will start today.

I’m Here

The diaries you listened to from MTV’s “I’m Still Here: Teenager Diaries from the Holocaust” tell powerful, moving, heart-felt stories from individuals who survived one of history’s darkest times. These teenagers felt as if they were stifled, muted from being able to tell the world how they felt on the inside. They had feelings, messages, desires, and needs that they shared with their diaries when they had nowhere else to turn.

I’m Here Put the assignment sheet you are receiving into your notebook on page 59 of your notebook.

I’m Here These diaries communicated all of these things to us and we now know what they went through and ultimately, that they felt the same way teenagers today feel. Now is your opportunity to tell the world, “I’m Here” This is a chance to communicate who you are. Tell the world the following things …

Tell the world … What inspires you, What motivates you, What sets you apart from the crowd, What frustrates you, What goes on in your community or your world that gets ignored, What happens that others don’t know about or don’t care to fix.

To complete this assignment, you must … 1. Create a new WORD document 2. SAVE this document: IAmHere_Npark.doc 3. Step 1: Put the proper heading 4. Step 2: Find a picture of yourself and embed it with your quote 5. Step 3: Find a quote about silence of being heard. Type this in the header of your paper, but like the quote on top of this paper. You may use a quotes you heard today. This quote must be in bold, Georgia, size 20 font. 6. Step #4: Type your I’m Here personal statement after your quote. This statement should be at least 300 words in length. (Use Tools – Word Count Options on your menu bar to see how many words you have). This statement should be in size 12 Times New Roman Font.
