Type Club Coalition Created in 2011 specifically to address FAA’s Transitioning General Aviation five-year plan to reduce fatal crashes: FAA when announcing the Plan: “the GA accident rate is down but there are areas that need special attention…homebuilt aircraft and agricultural operations.” “Homebuilt aircraft fly only 5% of general aviation hours but account for 22% of the accidents….” “Another area where the program will focus is on flight instructors…. go back to the flight instructors and say ‘you must focus more here.’” Strong implication that failure to noticeably reduce fatal crash rates will result in additional regulation, especially in E-AB aircraft

Type Club Coalition Builds on earlier work by EAA, LOBO and other groups Adds experience of the aircraft owners’ groups that have well-established pilot training programs Such groups are generally among type-certificated airplane “type clubs,” hence the “Type Club Coalition” Emphasis and membership has grown beyond just type clubs The TCC name has sometimes been an impediment to attracting Coalition members and making progress We are open to changing to a more inclusive name at some point in the future.

The TCC’s Mission Address and reduce the fatal general aviation accident rate Improve the state of transition training and recurrent pilot training in all types of general aviation aircraft Leverage the resources of members to create a Resource Center of type-specific best practices, that members may use to develop or upgrade their pilot training programs Encourage membership in Type Clubs and operations- specific organizations, and participation in their pilot safety and training programs

Mission (cont’d) Secondary purpose: “How to Form a Type Club” guide to guide development of new groups, especially in the E-AB community Members are encouraged to use TCC contacts to develop relationships to address other areas, such as parts approvals or abandoned Type Certificate issues, but those fall outside the scope of the TCC.

Action Items Members submit existing training materials EAA expands TCC website to include Type-Specific Pilot Training Resource Center TCC organize member materials for the website EAA legal staff provide guidance on liability issues Firm up committee chairpersons Quarterly TCC communications from EAA Establish “How to Form a Type Club” working group Issue a press release: renewed pilot training focus to reduce fatal crashes availability of resource center
