Development Plan for Reliable Card-size IOC N. Kamikubota and S.Yamada, J-PARC/KEK May 2015 in MSU, kami, KEK/J-PARC

May 2015 in MSU, kami, J-PARC/KEK In KEK, Blueberry-Raspberry-BeagleBone Blueberry By T.Kato-san (retired), in his farm (in Mt. Tsukuba) By N.Yamamoto and others, in J-PARC CCR (KEK-Tokai) Homemade Jam Hobby, training ・ 4 BBB controllers, each has 4 RS232C ports ・ 16 radiation-monitoring devices ・ trial to use low-cost card-size PC as an EPICS IOC By T.Obina, in 2014 in cERL (KEK-Tsukuba) Raspberry pi BeagleBone Black cERL, radiation monitoring Fig.s by T.Obina

May 2015 in MSU, kami, J-PARC/KEK Reliabiliy ? ・ BBB controllers in cERL, KEK-Tsukuba, have been working without any problem since early 2014 ・ But.. potential risks to introduce many BBB pieces - hardware weakness, long-term reliability and availability, etc. Develop a Customized Card-size IOC ・ J-PARC/KEK started design study with a company in Japan ・ aims “reliable BBB” ; with simple I/O, not much CPU power ・ Attentions toward higher reliability - selected parts (long-life CPU, careful choice of C,R, etc.) - against EM noises (ferrite in DC line, bi/bo photo isolation, etc.)

Design study for customized IOC Fig. by M.Nishizawa, Beat System Service, Japan 1 LAN for EPICS CA, 1 LAN for a device Heat contact (no fan, 7W) 12V DC in w. ferrite bead Display+2 USB For maintenance 2 serial ports for devices (RS232C and RS485 as default) Intel E3815 (1.46GHz 1 core, 1 thread) 2-GB DDR3L-SDRAM memory 1 disk-slot (SSD mSATA) 4 bi and bo ports w. photo isolations A plan view, not the final design

May 2015 in MSU, kami, J-PARC/KEK Two Chassis Plans Schedule and Cost ・ FY2015: Design study -> produce a few pieces of prototype - arrange them as EPICS IOCs, field tests in J-PARC Initial Cost: \?,000k # (not decided yet) ・ FY2016: mass production (here “mass”= 40-50 pieces) - replace 30-40 VME-bus IOC for networked PLC etc. - ~10 pieces for newly introduced devices after 2016 expected cost: ~\120k(USD1k) per piece + chassis (\30k or \120k) Fig. by M.Nishizawa, Beat System Service, Japan Single Multi (Rack-mount)

May 2015 in MSU, kami, J-PARC/KEK To friends in EPICS Community ・ give us a good name for this customized IOC ex) Blueberry ? ・ ask volunteers to join “mass production” in 2016: producing more pieces turns to cheaper cost per piece Thank you for your attention
