Savings & Income Generation Financial benefits & social cohesion: members access savings/loans for both coping with shocks/stresses and income generation activities Saving and loan groups contributed to community relief activities (e.g. water trucking in Sanaag region)

Women Empowerment 50 % of the Resilience Committees are women which has strengthened the role of women in a highly patriarchal society Many women in rural locations are earning incomes, acquiring and owning productive assets through borrowing loans, investing in viable business ventures and dropping negative practices such as FGM Gender barriers reduced through increased social networking as groups mature

Behavioral Change Improved access to different foods for vulnerable community groups (women, children & the elderly) Decreased cases of malnourishment were observed in the households with vegetable gardens by the Community Volunteers. Nutrition and hygiene awareness sessions in meetings of saving groups, M2M groups. etc.

Community Leadership/Governance Mindset change and paradigm shift through robust community engagements (CMDRR, PDRA, CVCA & PMERL) Leadership and conflict resolution trainings have developed the confidence and skills of leadership in target villages. There are a number of examples of external resource mobilization by RCs. Improved management of natural resources (water resources, rangelands, etc.)

Community Leadership – Cont’d Improved inter/intra-community dialogue through community learning forums Strengthened linkages between village governance and district/regional/national bodies and systems (e.g. communities and district authorities exchanging information on early warning, market, conflicts, charcoal production) Small projects initiated under innovation grants and connector projects enhanced absorptive, adaptive and transformative capacities
