4 VOAD  V oluntary O rganizations A ctive in D isaster  First founded in 1970 during recovery in the Gulf Coast from Hurricane Camille  Shares values of Communication, Coordination, Cooperation, Collaboration with member partners ..is a partnership between organizations to provide long term recovery to victims of natural disasters

5 NH VOAD TODAY  March 31, 2009:NH VOAD Conference  Identified Needs: VOAD Structure  Start with a solid mission statement and the rest will fall into place.  Create committees so that members can organize themselves  VolunteerNH is an advantage because it already acts as a liaison between the state and VOAD members  An incident command center should be developed for the VOAD and it’s members  Establish committees for recruitment broken into categories, business, veterans etc  Continue to support and establish COADs  Ensure each community has an updated disaster plan  Pre-identify vulnerable populations before disasters

7 Who Can Be A VOAD Partner?  Community Based Organizations  Community Action Programs, American Red Cross, United Way  Faith Based Organizations  Southern Baptist Disaster Relief, NH Catholic Charities  Non-Profits  Volunteer NH, Habitat for Humanity  Individual Churches  Bedford Community Church, Lighthouse Christian Fellowship Church  Private Sector  Wal-Mart, Lowes, Home Depot  Any organization that has the willingness and capacity to volunteer their RESOURCES or people

8 Types of Partners  Episodic Partners A partner who only responds for a specific event  On Going A partner who responds to provide disaster recovery services on a regular basis  VOADs prefer partners to be on going

13 VOAD & RECOVERY State Declared Disaster or State of Emergency Volunteer NH: Central Site for Communication and Coordination of Deploying VOAD resources Community Action Program: Case Management of Affected Homes. Communicates with VNH to get Resources to Affected Homes. VOAD Members: Prepared to Send Their Resources to Identified Homes.
