5 Disaster Recovery Coordination Coordinate Damage Assessment –Assign damage assessment teams –Develop damage assessment report Brief Elected Officials on Status of Disaster –Inform Commissioners on magnitude of emergency –Make recommendations for disaster declaration and additional resources required Establish Disaster Recovery Center –In cooperation with MEMA and FEMA, arrange for recovery assistance for citizens Coordinate Recovery Efforts with State & Federal Agencies

6 Local Emergency Planning Committee Federal Mandate –SARA Title III Act of 1986, requiring governments to perform emergency planning for hazardous material incidents Hazardous Chemical Reporting –Tier II reporting system to identify locations of hazardous materials in the county Community-Right-To-Know Act –Upon request, provide citizens with information on hazardous materials in their community Commodity Flow Study –Transportation survey to determine the types of hazardous materials moving throughout the county by land and rail routes

7 Ongoing Programs Citizen Corps Council –Created to recruit volunteers to assist government during disasters CERT - Community Emergency Reserve Team Program –Free Program offered to all Citizens to Teach Emergency Preparedness Citizens Guide to Emergency Preparedness –Booklet delivered to Homes and Businesses throughout the County Critical Incident Protocol Group –Public/private partnership between business and government for maintaining business continuity
