Welcome and thank you for your interest in our RN to BSN Program! The purpose of this PowerPoint is to provide an overview of the RN to BSN program and application requirements. Applicants who have further questions about the program are encouraged to attend an optional advising session at Sacramento State, Folsom Hall. Please check our website for dates and room location of advising sessions. Applicants may also email us at RNtoBSN@csus.edu with questions.RNtoBSN@csus.edu

OVERVIEW of RN to BSN PROGRAM Our program is designed to advance the Associate Degree RN to the next level in the profession and leadership roles. Our curriculum is designed with the flexibility to meet the needs of the working RN. Students have the option to attend the program full-time (degree completion in 2 semesters) or part-time (degree completion in 3 or more semesters). Graduates of our RN to BSN program are eligible to apply for California Public Health Nurse (PHN) Certificate. The RN to BSN program is accredited by the Commission on the Collegiate Nursing Education http://www.aacn.nche.edu/ccne-accreditation http://www.aacn.nche.edu/ccne-accreditation

OVERVIEW of RN to BSN PROGRAM Courses in the program are blended – approximately 70% of coursework will be online and 30% face to face. All students are required to attend an initial orientation meeting in addition to the face to face classes. All face to face classes occur on Wednesdays, typically every other Wed. during the first semester and one Wed. a month during the second semester. Students are also required to complete clinical for the community health course (NURS 174) in addition to the face to face classes. NURS 174 clinical is one day a week for 12 weeks. Full-time students take NURS 174 during the first semester. Part-time students take NURS 174 during the second semester.

FULL-TIME PATTERN Note: Altering the sample curriculum pattern may lengthen the time required for completion. *clinical hours required for non-working RNs **clinical required for all students (1 day/week X 12 weeks) ***WPJ exam must be taken prior to enrolling in course Note: Students automatically receive 17 units for completion of the NCLEX

PART-TIME PATTERN Note: Altering the sample curriculum pattern may lengthen the time required for completion. *clinical hours required for non-working RNs **clinical required for all students (1 day/week X 12 weeks) ***WPJ exam must be taken prior to enrolling in course

WRITING PLACEMENT FOR JUNIORS (WPJ) The Writing Placement for Juniors (WPJ) exam must be taken before enrolling in NURS 179. Enrollment in NURS 179 is contingent upon the score received on the WPJ. Students are encouraged to take the WPJ during their first semester. Students who already have a BA/BS in another field are exempt from the WPJ requirement. Link with more information about the WPJ http://www.csus.edu/testing/testing-services/

IMPORTANT CONSIDERATIONS NURS 171 must be taken before or concurrently with NURS 170 and NURS 174. NURS 173: clinical hours are required for non-working RNs. NURS 174: Clinical days are only during weekdays, typically from 8-5 pm. Students will be assigned to agencies by faculty. Faculty will attempt to match the day for clinical with the student’s request; however, agency and day of preference are not guaranteed. NURS 179: Writing Intensive: Completion of the Writing Placement for Juniors (WPJ) is a pre-requisite for enrollment. Meets GE Area E.
