2 Analyzing Primary Documents During the early seventeenth century, a parenting guide from The Office of Christian Parents was widely circulated The unknown author expressed the conventional wisdom of the time period on how children during that age should be raised.

3 1616 British Spelling Take a moment to notice the visual and grammatical differences between the excerpt and a modern translation of one of the excerpts. Theatre = Theater Honour = Honor Defence = Defense

4 Evolution of Typography In 1616: – “f” = “s” – “u” = “v” – “vv” = “w” – So, the modern equivalent of “wife” is wise, not wife.

5 Step 1 Read the excerpts aloud – Yes you may feel silly at first but hearing the text aloud will be helpful to your comprehension

6 Step 2 Identify two-three key ideas from each excerpt – Paraphrase the key ideas in the first column of the graphic organizer

7 Step 3 Identify pages or quotes in Romeo and Juliet that contrast with the excerpts and write them down in column two of the graphic organizer.

8 Step 4 Investigate contemporary ideas about parenting. You can ask your parents for a few quotes on parenting, find current magazine article, or take excerpts from a health textbook. Fill in the last column of the graphic organizer with this information.
