Putting together a puzzle takes quite a bit of PATIENCE.

 - I am patient with others and how they act.  - I am careful with my work and how I handle situations.  - I think before I speak or act.  - I know it takes patience to achieve my goals….at school, at home, and in life.

What does being patient look like…. in school? on playground? in cafeteria? at home? in life?

The UNTANGLE Game Divide into groups of 6 (must be an even number). Stand facing one another in a circle. Grab the right hand of a student across from (not next to) you. Next, join left hands with a different person. Then, try to untangle (form an unbroken circle) without anyone letting go.

The UNTANGLE Game In what way did it take patience to complete this task? What kept some of you going when you were frustrated and tempted to give up? In what other areas of life is patience required? What are some ways we can be more patient rather than give up too early?

The MARSHMALLOW EXPERIMENT The research team kept in contact with many of the preschoolers from the “Marshmallow Experiment” and found some very interesting things: As teenagers, the preschoolers who waited for the second marshmallow scored better on their SAT scores, had a greater ability to handle stress, plan ahead, and concentrate when being distracted.

The MARSHMALLOW EXPERIMENT  Some 40 years later, the original preschoolers were found and additional information was discovered by the research team:  Amazingly, the subjects’ willpower differences had largely held up over four decades. In general, children who were less successful at resisting the marshmallow all those years ago performed more poorly on the self-control task as adults.

The lesson: We don’t like to wait, because we don’t have to wait…we have instant everything right at our fingertips. And this is of-course precisely the reason that must learn to Be Patient. If you show patience even on little things, you will be able to learn many ideas, skills and talents, as well as be able to concentrate, take your time, and work your way through problems.
