3 Scenario. Your company has been awarded a contract to construct a two- storey basement with retail and commercial premises above on five floors. You must appraise the methods by which this development could be built and make recommendations on the method to be used for the basement formation and a framed superstructure.. Task 1. In the form of an illustrated report explain how the drainage is integrated into the substructure, (P4) Task 2. Explain how public utilities are re integrated into substructures. You should explain how deep concrete culverts, plant rooms, cable trenching and service ducts are incorporated in the structure. (P5) Task 3. You must describe the construction plant and equipment used to erect steel and concrete frames. Your report should include drawing images and/or drawings of the construction plant and equipment, with a statement on the advantages and disadvantages of each. (P6) Task 4. During the construction of the above structure you should explain the use of steel and concrete for the framed superstructure construction. You are to highlight the merits and de-merits. The workforce skills required and the lifting and placements and safe working access. (P7) Task 5. You are must relate the construction plant and equipment used in the construction of frames to the materials used and the site conditions encountered. Evidence should also refer to speed of erection and the labour required. (M2) Task 6. You must evaluate civil engineering methods used to form deep excavations and basements. You should demonstrate critical thinking on a range of methods. Explain how you would remove vast amounts of ovenburden (ground boiling) and the merits of ramping back as opposed to using cut-off walls or piles. (D1) Task 7 You are to carry out an appraisal of civil engineering construction methods used for framed structure with deep substructure foundations. You are to look at the different types of deep foundations and offer your views on the merits and dis- merit of each. D(2)

4 PLEASE NOTE THAT YOU WILL BE REQUIRED TO REFERENCE ALL YOUR WORK AND ANY IMAGES YOU USE IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE REFERENCING SESSION EXPLAINED BY THE LRC STAFF.
