Strategies focused 2015-16 Soil health improvement  Soil sampling & analysis in all farm holdings For need based nutrient Management  Distribution of Farmers Integrated hand Book(FIHB) Region specific and block specific technology identification  Demo on location specific package of practices  Development of cropping systems through farmers Participatory approach. Establishment of robust Integrated Input Supply Management System (ISMS)  Strengthening Seed Supply chain  Increased Seed Replacement rate (SRR)  Encouraging the use of appropriate hybrids, local varieties and high yielding cultivars especially for Jowar and Bajra  Distribution of quality foundation / certified seeds

New Innovations / Initiatives Introduced in 2015 – 16 NFSM - RICE  Direct sowing in nearly 1.00 lakh acres was taken using seed drill, Direct Sowing with hand machine  13510 acres brought under Machine / Line transplanting  Varietal Replacement 9081Quintals of Less than 10 years Certified seed varieties utilized in Direct sown & Line transplanting, hand operated seed drill  Disbursal of subsidy to farmers through ECS for Seeds, Direct Sowing with seed drill / hand machine, Machine planting operation ( Back ended subsidy )

NFSM - RICE  Mechanisation Assistance for Tractor, seed drill and sprayers  Productivity/Protectivity enhancing Inputs Liquid Bio-fertilizers distributed for the first time in >1 lakh acres MN Mixture, Zinc Sulphate, Gypsum, Plant Protection chemicals Weedicide application in Direct sown area Contd..

New Innovations / Initiatives Introduced in Pulses  Cluster and cropping system based Demonstrations - 1.21 lakh acres under taken both in Regular & Additional area coverage  Promotion of Summer / Rice fallow Pulses in 5.34 lakh acres Varietal Replacement 9316 Quintals of Less than 15 years Certified seed varieties distributed Popularisation of YMV free varieties through demonstration  Bush Crop (Perennial Red Gram), Mixed crop, inter crop and Bund crop are advocated to increase the Pulses Production.  Red Gram Transplanting Technology (Seedlings are raised in Poly Bags) with MI are popularised. Mechanisation Assistance for Tractor, seed drill, Rotavators and sprayers Productivity / Protectivity enhancing Inputs Liquid Bio-fertilizers for the first time in 1. 21 lakh acres MN Mixture, Zinc Sulphate, Gypsum, Plant Protection chemicals & Weedicide application SUGARCANE WITH GREEN GRAM

NFSM Coarse Cereals  Cluster demonstration of Major and Minor Millets in an area of 29805 acres is organized  Mixed crop promoted  Cultivation with Newly released varieties both hybrids and high yielding varieties.  Application of Liquid Bio-Fertilizer (Azosprillum and Phosphobacteria), MN mixture for balanced nutrition was promoted  Application of Optimum Plant Population. Application of Organic Manure / Vermi compost  Bringing fallow lands atleast 5–10% under cultivation  Devising strategies to curb expansion of fallow land  Inclusion of Millets in the Public Distribution System (PDS) CLUSTER - DEMO

NFSM – Commercial Crops  Demonstration on High Density Planting in Cotton  De-topping practices with IPM and INM strategies are also being demonstrated in Cotton  Sugarcane - Demonstrations including Integrated Water Management practices such as preparation of ridges and furrows for in-situ moisture conservation, alternate furrow irrigation and adoption of Drip and Fertigation system

Rabi Summer Pulses - 2015-16  9.241 lakh ha was covered under Pulses crop,  Nearly 7.544 lakh ha was covered during Rabi season.  In Rice fallow / Summer Pulses - 2.127 ha was covered  All the inputs like Certified seeds, Fertilizers, Plant Protection Bio Pesticides, Bio Agents etc. were stocked sufficiently to meet the demand  Demonstration on sowing & seed treatment of Bio fertilizers  Demonstration were laid to propagate IPM / Bird Perch.  Sprinkler irrigation / Raingun – under PMKSY were arrranged.  Awareness Campaign were organised at Village level & Publicity made through Vernacular news papers  Kisan SMS sending on weekly basis  Distribution of leaflets / Pamphlets  Training to farmers on INM/IPM for Pulses

Rabi / Summer Coarse Cereals  During 2015-16, 8.976 lakh Ha was covered under Coarse Cereals  In Rabi summer 50000 ha was covered out of 7.142 lakh ha More area was brought under Maize crop among Millets. Crop diversification from Higher Water Consumption crops like Banana and Turmeric was achieved. Soil health was improved by adding organic manures Availability of Certified seed / Hybrid varieties was ensured Sowing of seeds by formation of ridges and furrows for Maize was propagated Application of Liquid Bio-fertilizers and MN mixture – Technologies were disseminated to enhance the productivity of Maize. Thrust focus made on Integrated Weed management Nutritional security and income generation was ensured through value addition of Maize.

Issues for approval  Inclusion of PMT in Karur District - As per NFSM Operational guidelines, if the area under any one of the NFSM crop is > 10000 ha, the particular District is entitled to constitute PMT. Considering the pulses area, the District may be included  Uniform pattern of assistance to Machinery component – to adhere SMAM pattern of assistance  Relaxation of age limit – Extending Incentive to farmer preferred / extensively / popular varieties up to 15 years old under Pulses.  In order to promote Coarse Cereals cultivation NFSM – Coarse Cereals may extended to all districts  Enhancement of subsidy under all components  Post harvest technology oriented components may be included ( distribution of Tarpaulin)  Flexibility in allocation of funds / incurring expenditure in SC & ST category as per State population
