2 My Responsibilities Guide you in a chronological and thematic understanding of Canada. Provide timely feedback on assignments and projects. Challenge you to engage with the History of our Nation and do understand where and how Canada fits in the world.

3 Your Responsibilities Attend each class. Be prepared and on time. Approach activities and discussions with an open mind and respect. Work with your classmates and participate in group and class activities. Hand in assignments on time. Ask for help when you need it.

4 Thematic Approach Globalization What has been Canada’s place in the community of nations, and what should Canada’s role be? Development How has the Canadian economy evolved in an attempt to meet the needs and wants of all Canada’s people? Governance How have governments in the past and present been reflective of Canadian society? Sovereignty How have the struggles for sovereignty defined Canada, and how do they continue to define Canada? Justice How has Canada struggled for a just and fair society?

7 Our Timeline Our course spans a VERY LONG timeline! In each unit we’ll begin with Native or First Nations history (often going back to 13,000 BP) and we’ll travel to the 1990’s in Canadian History!

8 What does our timeline mean? We’ll be studying a lot of people, places, and things. You’ll see: 1. The early ways of life and structures in our region. 2. The political birth of Canada. 3. Canada’s role in nation building and world issues. 4. Canada in crisis.
