6 DNA Structure The shape of DNA is called a double helix. A good way to think of it is like a spiral staircase, or a twisted ladder.

7 How is DNA packaged at a crime scene? Gloves should always be worn. Gloves should be changed in between touching each piece of evidence, to avoid cross contamination. DNA evidence should never be placed in plastic, because plastic holds in moisture and could damage the DNA. Instead, place it in paper bags, cardboard boxes, envelopes, etc (depending on size and item) Liquid is collected with a sterile cotton swab, and placed in paper.
