3.  June 1st  To commemorate the day that Kenya became a self-ruling nation.  main event takes place at Nyayo Stadium in Nairobi. The President addresses the nation, and the uniformed military, singers, and traditional dancers from around the country provide entertainment for the crowds.  festive activities, including family picnics and games in the public parks. Many people take this opportunity to go back to their hometowns for the occasion, and often a big meal of goat or chicken is prepared for the special day

4.  Also known as collard greens  It is a very important vegetable in Kenyan diet  It is sliced thin and fried with tomatoes and onions

5.  October 20  Also known as Hero's day  celebrated to observe and collectively honor all of those who contributed towards the struggle for Kenya's independent or positively helped towards the struggle for Kenya's independence.

6.  This is the most common food in Kenya.  It’s cornmeal starch made into a thick paste.  Heavy and hearty and it goes well with vegetables as well as meat of any kind

7.  July 19  A festival that ends the fast of Ramadan  Also known as the sweet festival  celebrated by Muslims worldwide

8.  Along Kenya’s coast, the food has been influenced by Arabs and Indians.  Spiced rice dishes are common and delicious
