2   Franklin D. Roosevelt defeats Herbert Hoover  FDR promised government involvement towards the economic recovery efforts  Hoover was not in favor of this  Creates and helps pass the NEW DEAL  2 “New Deals” were passed during his presidency Election of 1932

3   Purpose was to create “relief, recovery, and reform” for the American people and its economy  Focused on specific areas of weaknesses and created policies to address these weaknesses The New Deal

4  Banking  Emergency Banking Act (1933)  Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation  Closed all banks  Couldn’t reopen until they had passed a test to prove they would stay open  Gave citizens insurance on their bank accounts in case a bank closed again

5  Stock Market  Securities and Exchange Commission  Created to oversee the stock market to make sure that all trades are fair and info is accurate to the public

6  Energy and Farming  Agricultural Adjustment Act  Tennessee Valley Authority  Regulated a farmer’s crop output  Helped raise the price on crops  Supplied energy to Mid- West by building power lines, plants, dams
