3 About the Volunteer Guidelines  Published guidelines are a requirement of the Board  Flow from and support the Mission Statement  Designed to be a quick reference guide  Volunteers need to support Mission and Doctrinal Statements…Do You?

4 Procedures  Wear a name badge that identifies you as a volunteer coach  If you are ill, please do not come to the school  Please do not bring younger children with you when volunteering

5 Supervision  Even though you are a coach, you are still responsible to a paid staff member.  The staff member will communicate the parameters of your assignment  Know who the staff member is that you are responsible to and communicate to him/her if anything is wrong

6 Communication  If you are the primary coach of a team, you are responsible to communicate to parents.  Sending information by e-mail is great.  Do not send sensitive messages through the student, e-mail, or leave them on voicemail  Call the parent and arrange a time to meet with or talk with the parent by phone

7 Communication  When initiating electronic communication:  Copy another student, the head coach, or other adult  Communication, electronic or otherwise, is prohibited after 9:00 p.m.

8 Smoking  Smoking, chewing, or other tobacco use is banned from all school property  Interior of all buildings  All school grounds such as playgrounds and sports fields  All vehicles used by CSCS

9 Character & Confidentiality  Resolve conflicts quickly  Be faithful in your volunteer assignment  Do not disclose confidential information  The A.D./principal has the responsibility to determine a person’s need to know

10 Volunteer Drivers  A release form, copy of driver’s license, & a copy of insurance verification must be on file  Drivers are responsible for any violations  Return the same children back to the school  Drive directly to/from the event No extra stops  Seatbelts are a must  No cell phones while driving

11 School Vehicles  Only authorized persons should drive a CSCS vehicle  Students are not authorized  Ensure that you are briefed on the operation of the vehicle

12 Health & Safety  Wear disposable gloves if in contact with bodily fluids  Wipe up with paper towels  Clean area with bleach disinfectant  Throw gloves and towels into plastic lined garbage can  Notify A.D. of situations involving blood

13 Harassment  CSCS will not tolerate any form of harassment  Retaliation is prohibited  Report harassment to supervisor  Do not assume that administration is already aware

14 Information Systems  Not for personal use  Review message for quality  Harassment prohibited  Password protected  School property  Unauthorized use of information  Virus protection

15 Sexual Misconduct  Make sure that there is never a hint of sexual impropriety  All encouragement should be hand-to-hand (like high fives) not a slap on the backside, etc.  If you need to enter the locker room, do everything possible to warn students that you are coming in, so that they can be dressed and that no students are alone  Never meet with a student in an isolated place

16 Sexual Misconduct  Prohibited in every way  You have an obligation to report  Report will be investigated  Determination will be made by supervisors of those in question  Action will be taken

17 Standard of Conduct  Model Christian lifestyle and ethics  Christ-like standard as set forth in the Bible  Behaviors prohibited on and off premises  Includes the private lives of volunteers  Only work with students in a public place (never alone)

18 Violence or Threats  School should be a safe place  Instances of violence or threats of violence will be taken seriously  Refrain  Report  Keep information confidential

19 Practical Suggestions Be trained on how to use office equipment Park in designated areas Contacted by media? Direct inquiries to Superintendent’s office Know the rules about securing the building Exercise caution in regards to valuables
