1 Heroes of the Great Patriotic War

2  ALEXANDER MATROSOV. A young soldier served in the 2nd Battalion of the 91st Infantry Brigade. He was born on February 5, 1924 in Yekaterinoslav. Soon he lost his parents. For five years he was brought in the orphan house in Ulyanovsk Region. When the war began, he went to the front. Right from the march his brigade entered the battle.

3   On February 27, 1943 the 2nd battalion was given the task to attack the stronghold gun from the third bunker which continued to fire the entire valley towards the village. The attempts to stop its fire were unsuccessful. Then Alexander crawled toward the bunker, slumped to the embrasure of the flank and threw two grenades. The gun fell silent. But as soon as the soldiers went into battle, the gun started to shoot again.. Then the man rose to his feet, ran to the bunker and closed it with his body. Despite the fact that the soldier was not the first to commit such an act of self-sacrifice, his name was used to glorify the heroism of Soviet soldiers. Subsequently, more than 300 people committed the same feat. His feat has become a symbol of courage and valor, courage and love of the country. Alexander Matrosov was awarded the title of the Hero of the Soviet Union on June 19, 1943.
