Jewell warned against putting lands that belong to all Americans for sale to the highest bidder. She noted that it is an extreme movement happening from Oregon to Puerto Rico. Secretary Jewell’s speech comes just two months after a violent occupation of a wildlife refuge in Oregon ended. Her statements make it clear that the Department of Interior will not be making concessions to those trying to repossess public lands, particularly in the West.
