2 1881-1973 Was born in Spain. The son of a Painter and Art Teacher. At the age of 14, Picasso was completing art exercises in a day that were taking older kids a month to complete. Picasso was a painter, sculptor, and ceramicist.

3 In 1900 he moved to Paris with a friend. When his friend passed away, Picasso began painting mournful, elongated subjects in a predominantly blue palette. – referred to as the BLUE PERIOD. 3 years later Picasso became part of a circle of writers, actors, musicians, and artists and his palette took on pinker tones. – referred to as the ROSE PERIOD. In 1905, seeing the work of the Fauves and meeting Matisse stimulated his use of different techniques and materials. The Old Guitarist, 1903

4 Along with artist Braque, Picasso helped develop the art movement of Cubism. Cubism challenged the principles of perspective by painting from several angles at once. Girl Before a Mirror, 1932 Accordonist, 1911

5 In 1937, in the middle of the Spanish Civil War, the Spanish Republican Government asked Picasso to create a mural glorifying Spain. Instead, Picasso produced a monumental work showing the effects of the appalling bombing of a defenseless Spanish town, Guernica. Guernica, 1937

6 After World War II, Picasso moved to the South of France and began to produce ceramics. He continued to experiment with mediums for the rest of his life. During a career lasting more than 75 years, he produced over 20,000 works of art.
