Positive or negative? As a result of dispersal, significant stress in 1999, BUT … as a result 1.More professionally run services 2.Better trained and supported interpreters 3.Increased workload means more interpreters fully committed 4.More co-operation between interpreting services

Continuing Challenges 2. When we cannot provide interpreters, professionals tend to use any services without looking into quality –Potential risk to patients’ health –danger confidentiality will not be respected What we do – ask professionals to a)Consider changing the date of appointment b)Use an approved telephone interpreting service

Discussion 1.In order to provide equal access to services for people with limited English, how do we influence professionals users to use a good quality interpreting service? 2.From your experience in using interpreting services, what issues have you faced?
