10. Sanford’s Last Days Governor Sanford was diagnosed with inoperable esophageal cancer in late 1997 and was only given a few months to live Sanford died peacefully in his sleep while being surronded by family in his home in Durham, North Carolina

11. Sanford’s last days Sanford passed away April 18 th, 1998 at the age of 80 Sanford is entombed in the Duke University Chapel
