I.The PROCESS of the choice

A. The Calvinist slant

The Five Points of Calvinism Total depravity Unconditional election Limited atonement Irresistible grace Perseverance of the saints Five articles of Remonstrance Total depravity Conditional election Unlimited atonement Prevenient grace Conditional preservation John Calvin Jacobus Arminius 1560 –1609 1509 – 1564

The second doctrine of Calvinism, Unconditional Election (predestination), is based on the first, Total Depravity. Calvinists say that since mankind is totally depraved and cannot respond in faithful obedience to the invitation of Jesus -- people cannot choose for themselves to obey or disobey God -- then God had to choose for mankind. Unconditional Election states that God chose some to obey and some to disobey. Unconditional Election is the belief that God, with no regard to the will of man, made an eternal choice of certain persons unto eternal life and some to eternal damnation and that number is so fixed that it cannot be changed.

taking vengeance that obey not the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ (2Th 1:7-9) And to you who are troubled rest with us, when the Lord Jesus shall be revealed from heaven with his mighty angels, In flaming fire taking vengeance on them that know not God, and that obey not the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ: Who shall be punished with everlasting destruction from the presence of the Lord, and from the glory of his power;

not willing that any should perish (2Pe 3:9) The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance. Who will have all men to be saved (1Ti 2:4) Who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth.

(2Th 2:10) And with all deceivableness of unrighteousness in them that perish; because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved. (2Th 2:11) And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie: (2Th 2:12) That they all might be damned who believed not the truth, but had pleasure in unrighteousness.

I have chosen you out of the world (Joh 15:19) If ye were of the world, the world would love his own: but because ye are not of the world, but I have chosen you out of the world, therefore the world hateth you.

given us in Christ Jesus (2Ti 1:9) Who hath saved us, and called us with an holy calling, not according to our works, but according to his own purpose and grace, which was given us in Christ Jesus before the world began, in Christafter that ye heard the word of truth (Eph 1:12-13) That we should be to the praise of his glory, who first trusted in Christ.
