2 VISIBILITY AND SUCCESS Each year our ensembles perform at more than 45 athletic events and 55+ other UI events. These 100+ performances are seen by over 200,000 people per year. VMB brings 2,000 high school students to the UI campus for recruiting events. Tours statewide high schools annually. Recognized nationally for innovation and performance (most recently Top 10 listing in Rolling Stone Magazine!) One of UI’s most visible, active, and successful activities.

3 AN “ALL CAMPUS” ORGANIZATION Over 200 students! One of UI’s most academically diverse groups: Nine of the ten UI colleges are represented Students from over 55 programs of study Recent members include national merit scholars, veterans, and non-traditional students.

5 EXPENSES COVERED BY STUDENT FEES Part time professional staff Student logistical staff Instruments Instrument repair Rehearsal equipment Sheet music and printing Equipment truck (fuel, maintenance, etc.) Uniforms (formal and informal) Band camp (on campus) Marching band travel to one away football game or NFL performance Pep band travel to the WAC basketball tournament Administrative/office supplies Student fee revenues do NOT cover: Band director salary (funded by the CLASS and the School of Music) Band scholarships (funded by central administration)

6 Student Fees and the Band Program Currently receive $6.25 from each full time student Currently receive $1.25 from each part time student Operates within the School of Music (not Athletics)

8 FEE INCREASE REQUEST We requesting a $2.25 increase (from $6.25 to $8.50) for full-time students. These funds will be used to pay for: Increased operating expenses created by band growth and inflation Fund a seven-year instrument replacement plan to purchase new sousaphones ($165,000) and percussion ($40,000).

9 OUR GOAL To maintain a 115+ year tradition of continued excellence.
