John Monash Scholars are a nation-building initiative, developing future leaders “The privilege of education carries great responsibilities – it is given not for individual benefit alone, but to befit persons for the higher duties of citizenship and for roles of leadership in all fields to make Australia great.” General Sir John Monash, 1920  Established in 2003, linked to vision of General Sir John Monash  Attributes emphasized are those driving potential impact for Australia: leadership, intellectual strength, community  98 Scholarships have been awarded to date. Scholarship established as similar rank to Rhodes, Menzies, Fulbright - but is uniquely Australian  The General Sir John Monash Foundation is not formally linked with Monash University

Scholarships: The Details Applicants must be Australian citizens; must have completed or be about to complete, a degree from an Australian university with outstanding results There is no age restriction. Scholarships are awarded for study of new degrees commencing in 2015, not for degrees already commenced, and not degrees commencing in 2014. Study must be undertaken overseas The Scholarships are offered for postgraduate study, with Masters courses regarded equally with Doctoral studies. Scholarship winners receive $60,000 per year for up to 3 years. Money is not tied to tuition fees etc; spent at the Scholars discretion (towards the study program). The Scholarship does not prohibit other sources of income Rigorous selection process; awarded by Governor-General. Applications close 13 August 2014.
