2 The new logo reflects the strategic direction and spirit of the Tshwane University of Technology. It symbolises: - the advancement of knowledge and skills in a higher education context, in line with TUT’s commitment to professional, career- focused education of an international standard in the most current technology, relevant to the needs of the labour market and of society. - the diversity of the institution’s stakeholder population – staff, students and other role-players – who come together to form a whole, as well as the institution’s holistic approach to its various tasks. - and reflects on the cultural heritage of the University.

3 The logo continued It was not the intention to create a purely literal graphic. Therefore, what can be seen in the device is the image of a person – a student in graphic idiom, who is reading from a book.

4 The logo continued The book is multi-layered and multi-faceted to indicate the depth of study inherent to the new institution and the range of qualifications offered. It also symbolises the coming together of the various institutions to form the Tshwane University of Technology.

5 The logo continued The book is founded upon a red triptych, depicting the three institutions from which the Tshwane University of Technology originated and which forms the knowledge basis of the institution. Furthermore, it is symbolic of the institution’s core challenges to educate, conduct research and development and to serve the community.

6 The logo continued The blue ribbon that encircles the bottom half of the logo provides a border around the logo in line with the institution’s obligation to shield and protect its students and to prepare them for entry to the world of work.

7 The logo continued The use of rich colours – red, blue and gold – and a variety of shapes in the design, depicts the multicultural aspect of our community and the university itself.

8 The logo continued The focus is on the individual, in line with Tshwane University of Technology’s motto, “We empower people.”
