Velocity: Speed in a given direction Ex. 250 km/h North Speed = 250km/h Direction = North

Any change in speed or directions means a change in velocity

Resultant velocity = combine 2 velocities that are in the same direction (addition) Resultant velocity = combine 2 velocities that are in opposite directions (subtract smaller from larger) direction of larger velocity is the resultant velocity direction

Example: If a bus is traveling a 35 m/s East and you move to the front of the bus at 2 m/s East, what would your resultant velocity be?

Answer: 37 m/s East

Ex. If you are on a train going 55 m/s north and you run to the back of the train at 8 m/s south, what is your resultant velocity?

Answer: 47 m/s north
