4 Reading –Storyworlds & Lighthouse reading materials. 1 or 2 books per week. –Reading at home nightly recommended shared and individual reading –Paired Reader (Changed weekly) –Shared Reading with buddies for P2 Opportunities for exploring reading for enjoyment and hearing a model reader - Class Novel Study (Term 1) –Intervention – 3 sessions per week

5 Tools For Reading Primary 2 work with Ben Bear to use new reading tools. Look at the pictures Sound it out Look at the first letters Continue to introduce tools throughout Primary 2.

6 Reading Continue to encourage sight vocabulary Now looking for fluency and expression Develop comprehension skills

7 Intervention Tools for reading (Ben Bear) e.g read the blurb, read the title, look at the picture, use what you know already, read on, sound it out Reading into Writing Whole class lessons – differentiated activities. Collaborative learning

8 Novel Study Lighthouse Keeper’s Lunch Encourages reading for enjoyment. Emphasis on literacy. Also cross- curricular. Whole class reading – modelling, discussing.

9 Writing Have-a-go news/have-a-go spelling (encourage phonetic awareness/writing) VCOP –Vocabulary using WOW words to make sentences more interesting –Connectives and, but, so, then, because, when –Openers starting our sentences in new and interesting ways –Punctuation Capital letter, full stop at more than one sentence.

12 Numbers to 100 –Day 100 –Celebration – various activities e.g. drawing portrait at 100 years old, if I had £100, draw 100 spots on dalmation, 100 piece jigsaws, writing 100 words, 100 piece collage (home task), 100 hats –Focus on number square – counting to 100, missing numbers, sequencing, patterns (counting in 10’s, 5’s, 2’s, 3’s) –Odd/even numbers –Bigger/smaller numbers, more/less/between, 10 more/less –Rounding to nearest 10 –Tens and units

13 Addition and Subtraction Number stories – quick recall of bonds to 10, addition to 10 including money Number stories to 20 – dice sums, cubes, beads, matching sum and answers Counting on and back from a given number – number lines, feet, lily pads Bridging 10 - put biggest number in head, count on Doubles/near doubles Mental strategies e.g. adding 9 – add 10 and take away 1 Linking addition and subtraction e.g. 2+4=6, 6-4=2 Missing number sums e.g. 3 + __ = 5 Mental maths test weekly – Friday.

16 Shape and Information handling Simple symmetry of shapes and identifying lines of symmetry. Interpreting and creating pictograms and block graphs 2D and 3D shape – naming simple shapes and objects – vocabulary; faces, vertices, edges.

18 Sexual Health Sexual Health and Relationships programme. Living Things- Where they’re from – difference between eggs and seeds. Pets I am me, I am like you -Encourages correct vocabulary for body parts – reinforce P1 vocabulary. Family Life, ups and downs

19 Rights Respecting School United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC) –Information leaflets available A Rights Respecting School not only teaches about children’s rights but models rights and respects in all relationships within the school community Working towards achieving Level 1 status –Includes creating a community steering group –Pupils becoming RRS Ambassadors 19
