1 Textiles Technology Year 9 Children’s Book Name Assessment Areas: Research, Communicating and Making

2 Page 1: Design Situation & Design Brief Name: Class: Date: Design Brief For our Year 9 Textile Technology Project we are going to work as a team to design and make an educational children’s book. We are going to carry out a variety of research; looking at design considerations, learning and practicing appliqué and quilting techniques, analysing existing products and collecting fabric samples. This research should help us to generate some original ideas. After choosing our best idea we will manufacture the book in textiles and create flow charts to explain how to make it. We will also carry out risk assessments to ensure that we are working safely. Once our book is completed we will test it and evaluate how successful it is. Design Situation Needs and opportunities

Explain each point and relate it to the research you have gathered. Reliability: long lasting, strong Function: how is it educational? Is it a flip-up, pop- up? Does it contain interactive games? Purpose: What will it teach them? Why?
