Coniferous Forest Mrs. McGilvery class Braulio Garcia Gomez 2013-2014

Range You can find a coniferous forest in Canada, Europe, Asia, and the United State of America and in high mountains.

Climate (Weather) You can find a coniferous forest where a lot of snow falls and hot weather and really extreme cold weather to.

Plant (Columbines) A columbine is a graceful plant with red spurred drooping bell like flower with a yellow center from spring through early summer. This flower, native to Manitoba Ontario, and south Quebec and attracts hummingbirds.

Animal (Coyote) A coyote have adapted to be able to live anywhere. Urban, desert, planes and more. They have found a way to work alone on small prey and work in groups of about 3 coyotes on big prey. By being able to live anywhere they have destroyed ecosystems and moved into places they should go such as cities. When they move into cities they interfere with our life massively annoy us constantly. Eventually they have to get more aggressive and move closer and closer to humans to get their food.

Classification and Antomy A coyote is small as a pup but big as a adult. A coyote can be gray and a brown gray color.

Adaption's Coyotes are among the most adaptable mammals in North America. They have an enormous geographical distribution and can live in very diverse ecological settings, even successfully making their homes in suburbs, towns, and cities.

Life Cycle Male and female coyotes start mating in the early part of the year like between February and April. They start breeding when they are about two years old. When mating season starts, many male coyotes will gather around a female coyote to win the female's heart. They sometimes have to fight and the female will choose one that will be best for her. Once the female chooses, they will be together for life so the female coyote must choose carefully. When April or May comes around and where there is plenty of food everywhere, the female will give birth from about 2-12 pups on average. The pups are blind and deaf when they are first born from their mother, but there eyes and ears will open after about fourteen days after they are born

Diet Coyote’s diet is diverse, and changes with the seasons, depending on food availability. In late Spring and Summer, coyotes seek out snowshoe hare, diverse species of rodents, insects like grasshoppers, raccoons and porcupines, wild turkeys, and some ungulate newborns, just to mention a few choices in their diet

Predators The biggest predators of the coyote are humans. Ninety percent of coyote deaths are attributed to people through hunting with guns, poison, traps or killed accidently with vehicles or farm equipment

Endangered Coyote were put on the endangered list in 2007 but taken off in 2011 because people let the population grow to thousands of coyotes.

Interesting Facts Courtship lasts for approximately 2 to 3 months. Female coyotes are monoestrous and are in heat for 2 to 5 days between late January and late March. Mating occurs within these 3 months. Once the female chooses a partner, the mates may remain paired for a number of years, but not necessarily for life
