Possessive adjectives are also referred to as ein-words since they take the same endings as the indefinite article ein. Each personal pronoun has a corresponding possessive adjective.

My grandfather loves his grandchildren.

All rights reserved. 3A.1-6 Possessive adjectives Like other ein-words, possessive adjectives have no added endings before singular masculine or neuter nouns in the nominative, or before singular neuter nouns in the accusative. Ihr Kind ist 3 Jahre alt. Her child is 3 years old. Tobias liebt seinen Bruder. Tobias loves his brother.

The possessive adjective ihr can mean either her or their, depending on context. Wo sind Ihre Eltern? Where are your parents? Rolf und Heike kochen für ihre Kinder. Rolf and Heike cook for their children.
