Drug Decision making assignment Aadam Ahmed

You and a friend have just watched a movie. You are leaving the cinema and notice a group of popular kids from your school who are all smoking. You stop to talk. You and your friend are offered cigarettes.

The problem in this scenario is doing drugs and smoking, which is bad for your health.

What Can I do? I can smoke and be accepted by the cool group of kids from school I can reject the cigarette and help influence my friend to do this as well.

Right Decisions? If I chose alternative a, this means I would have started smoking If I started to smoke, maybe all the kids will think I like it, and they will make me smoke more. I will end up smoking a lot.

How will it impact me? If I smoke, it will likely make my friend feel he has to smoke as well. I will feel bad about myself and my decision making because I knew that was the wrong choice. I can get very sick and ill, because smoking causes damage to the lungs

I would certainly change my decision to smoke.

Scenario 2 Your best friend's father drives you to soccer practice every Monday and Wednesday night, and you really appreciate it because your parents aren't available to drive and you would have to take the bus otherwise. He always smokes in the car and you don't like it because you are aware of the negative effects of Second hand smoke.

Problem The problem is the second hand smoke I am breathing in.

Decision I can tell him nothing and keep inhaling the smoke which is bad for my health, and it could make me perform badly. I can tell him to not smoke in the car because it is bad for everyone around him including me and himself. I can tell him to smoke when he is not in the car.

Decision If I choose decision b, I would probably send a message to him about his horrible habit. He would probably stop smoking in the car which would cause me to not breath in any more second hand smoke.

This was definitely the right decision.

Scenario 3 A few of your friends often pitch-in together to buy a pack of beer. Today, they want you to kick in some money to help buy that pack. You don’t drink and feel it's unfair that you should have to pitch-in for their booze. Besides, you have been trying to save your money to buy a really cool snowboard. They start accusing you of being cheap and tell you to get lost if you don't want to be part of the group.

The problem is me contributing to underage drinking.

Decision I can pitch is some money. I can not pitch in some money to buy the beers.

If I choose decision a of pitching in some money, there is a chance that the kids will make me pitch in money more often. I could get in trouble for pitching some money and I will feel really bad about myself

After I realized how bad this decision was, I would go back and make a different choice.

Scenario 4 You and a friend are at a party. Before the party, your friend arranges with her parents to get a ride home for you both at the end of the evening. When it is time to leave, her/his brother and a friend arrive to pick you up instead of his/her parents. You notice that both boys have been drinking and there is even an open bottle of beer in the car. It isn't very far to your house though.

problems Drinking and driving

Decisions I can let them drive me I can walk home

If I chose decision b, I would survive instead of maybe dying. If the drunk people drove me home, the car probably would have crashed and I probably would die. If I walk home, it will not be long anyways.

This was the right decision.

Scenario 5 You are 13 years old, and really like this guy/girl who is several years older than you. You think he's probably not interested in you because you're just a kid. You notice that he/she smokes and wonder if he'd think you were older if he/she saw you smoking too.

Problem Smoking

Decision I can smoke to try to impress this person I can not smoke and not try to impress this person.

If I do not smoke, my health will not be damaged. This is definitely the right decision.
