1 ACTIVITY POEM

2 Six Minutes Twenty Six Seconds
Throat scorched. Chest burning. Fast jogging. Keep up, keep up- two hundred meters behind. Breath fast. Breath shallow. I'm short distance. Thought I was on a roll: beat my time in hurdles, beat my height in high jump. Last lap. Breath fire. Finish hard. Last to cross but get my time. Win.

3 Is like riding to another universe On beams of light.
Write down each step. You will write one activity poem. STEP 1: Describe your favorite activity. Include one simile or metaphor in your description. Example: Playing the piano Is like riding to another universe On beams of light.

4 STEP 2: Imagine you are doing the activity. Tell what your body would be doing during this activity using active verbs. Example: As my hands curve over the piano keyboard, My wrists rise higher than my fingers. My back lines up straight.

5 STEP 3: Describe how you feel as you do the activity. What are you thinking? Why is it your favorite activity? Examples: I think about twirling and swirling in the air And traveling to Saturn and Jupiter. I love to play because I transform myself into someone else When I start the music.

6 STEP 4: Describe how your favorite activity ends. Example: When my mother calls me for dinner, I have to return to reality.

7 STEP 5: Finish the poem by describing what you normally do at the end of your favorite activity. Example: I stand up and stretch like a cat in the sun. Then I shake my hands until my arms feel loose.
