1 Foundational Reading for our Youngest Learners Roosevelt Elementary

2  Major focus on Foundational Reading:  Core Focus:  Phonological Awareness  Phonics and Word Recognition  Spelling and Encoding  Fluency  Also supports: vocabulary and language development

3  A Personalized Learning Progression for Each child.  Based on the Screener that is administered the first time a child logs on.  Software provides targeted explicit instruction and systematic practice.  Differentiates instruction to students-allows for reteaching when necessary.

4  The program is divided into 6 classrooms:  Miss A: alphabet knowledge (52 topics)  Coach Z: phonological awareness (51 topics)  Mr. Sounders: guidance and support as students learn the 44 sounds of the English language. (108 topics)  Mr. Seemore: high-utility sight words (43 topics)  Mr. Wordy: teaches children to strategically read (56 topics)  Professor Readwell: guides children as they transfer and apply skills (51 books)

5  Teachers login daily to SAM  Teachers see their class “at a glance” and can see students who are deferred for the day.  Reteaching is done at the point of deferment.  If no students are in deferment, regular lessons are conducted based on the Groupinator.

10  30 minutes of iRead built into daily schedules.  Frequent monitoring of student growth charts  Quarterly meetings with K-2 teachers to discuss strengths and concerns.  Mondo testing done 2x/year (3x for K)

13 “Students are more excited about reading.” “Students are reading sight words even before we started “teaching” them.” “Even the kids who struggle with reading are having success at their own pace, it is giving solid data to teach interventions from.” “Students are making connections in Mondo with the songs from iRead.” “With the exception of a few, all of my students are making consistent growth.” “Of the 6 kids that are at topic 13 or higher, 4 of them are reading a level A and 1 is a level E.”
