3. Our visit to Milan Polytechnic from the 29th-31st January was inspirational. The European Project (LeHo-Learning at Home and Hospital) has begun in earnest. The partners aim to share and develop practice and to influence policy at transnational level and through Brussels. I will be asking the rest of the 15 UK Hospital schools for support, advice and input as their resources and priorities allow, but it would be great to have our whole sector involved. The following is a bit wordy, but it is important for us. I hope you find it meaningful. Just to give you a sense of the scope of this project, I have listed our partners below: Bednet from Belgium who install and monitor video conferencing equipment in classrooms and in the homes of students with long term medical needs. We will soon organise a practice exchange that will support our offer. EDEN from Hungary (registered in UK) who ensure effective evaluation and dissemination of large projects. HOPE from the Netherlands organizes seminars and practical workshops that enable teachers to work together on common themes and improve the educational provision for the children with medical needs. MMB from Germany, whose market research and data regarding health issues is often quoted by the German Government and has informed policy change. Funditec from Spain who will look at exploitation of project outcomes beyond the current funding. They are an organisation that is very much at the front of the circular economy debate. Milan Polytechnic who have considerable experience in coordinating EU projects and describe this as one of their most meaningful projects. The University of Perugia who will provide statistical analysis support. They will also provide the research for adapting learning environments to address the educational needs of children with medical needs. We are one of two Hospital Schools engaged in this project across Europe, the other being the Munich Hospital School; they operate across 14 bases and cater for a vast number of young people with complex needs. Finally, the immense and forward looking Children’s Cancer Hospital in Cairo are the only partner not from the EU. They bring expertise in fund raising and aspire to provide a fully ICT driven curriculum. The project will impact on many things that we do and I hope will inspire us all. Leicester Hospital School contribution to the LeHo project 6.1 - Training Actions: To identify approaches and develop practical strategies so that participating institutions can be engaged in meaningful continuing professional development, relating to key concepts of pedagogy, data integrity, protection and shared access. The training actions will focus on what the Hospital School Sector has in common in terms of staff skills, knowledges and competences, as well as the context of each individual educational institution that works with children with medical needs. The training will focus on providing discrete packages which will allow participants to access the toolkits that will emerge from the project. 6.2 - Fieldwork Experiences: To collate and report on the emerging and developing experiences and practices as they happen and at the end of the project and the use of IT across all partners focusing on pedagogy, methodology, resources and application. We need to be mindful of what fits each partner and how solutions can be translated into the context of the individual countries and transnationally. 6.3 – Webinars: To share, via a series of webinars, synchronously and a visual library of short films (asynchronously), focusing on access, protocols, staff development, practical IT solutions, key knowledge and practices across all participating countries and institutions and toolkit dissemination.
