3 Religion Dominant Religions – Protestant religion makes up 32% – Roman Catholics make up 21.6% – Hindu’s make up 18.2% Other religions such as Muslims, Baptists, Seven-Day-Adventist, Anglican, Evangelical, and Jehovah's Witness.

4 Government A Parliamentary Democracy exist Free Speech The role of the police is to protect the country, but due to the increase in violence and transshipment of cocaine there has been corruption within the force.

5 Government The role of the military is to defend the country Branches of Military: – Trinidad & Tobago Defense Force – Trinidad & Tobago Army – Trinidad & Tobago Force Reserves Ages: 18-25 years old for voluntary military service. 16 years old need parental consent to join.

6 Education Education is valued highly Education is not free, parents have to pay for teachings, uniforms and transportation. Higher education is not free, parents and families make sacrifices so students can continue their education Parents sometimes avoid sending their children to school due to the cost.

7 Etiquette/Greetings Punctuality is not important, “Trinidad time” refers to habitual lateness. Men harassing women on the streets is common, if the women replied they’d lose status. It is expected that when you enter a room you say, “Good Morning” “Good Afternoon” or “Good Night”.

8 Clothing and Appropriate Dress During Carnival women wear barely-there bikinis embellished with feathers and sequins as common attire. Costumes of animals, mythical creatures and insects are worn also.

9 National Holidays Phagwah/Holi (Hindu Spring Festival) (usually in March) Easter Monday Labour Day (19 June) Boxing Day (26 December). Carnival is the biggest celebration.

10 Transportation Buses are used for transportation and are often pick-up trucks with benches or minivans. They are often crowed and unreliable. Water travel by ferry is available- it runs through port of Spain and Tobago. Not everyone owns a car, and wearing a seatbelt is a strict rule. No subway stations.

11 Immunization Requirements Yellow fever immunization is required for travelers who are at least 9 months. It is recommended to get immunized for Hepatitis A&B, Typhoid, and Rabies.
