3 The Zodiac  The signs of the Zodiac are based off of a ring of constellations that the sun seems to pass through each year.  The constellations represent various figures/creatures from Greek mythology  Depending on the month & day when you were born, you are assigned a Zodiac sign

4 Capricorn  The Sea Goat  Dec 22 – Jan 19  Half goat, half fish  Goat that nursed baby Zeus

5 Aquarius  The Water Bearer  Jan 20 – Feb 18  Represents Ganymede, a youth taken to Mount Olympus by Zeus to act as a cupbearer to the gods

6 Pisces  The Fish  Feb 19 – Mar 20  Latin plural for “fish”  Aphrodite and Eros escaped from the monster Typhon by turning into fish and leaping into the sea

7 Aries  The Ram  Mar 21 – Apr 19  Latin for “ram”  The golden ram whose fleece was stolen by Jason and the Argonauts

8 Taurus  The Bull  Apr 20 – May 20  Zeus transformed into a bull and brought Europa to be the first queen of Crete  Cretan Bull: Labor of Hercules

9 Gemini  The Twins  May 21 – June 21  Famous twins Castor and Pollux: Castor was the son of the King of Sparta and Pollux was the son of Zeus

10 Cancer  The Crab  June 22 – July 22  Lernean Hydra: Labor of Hercules  Hera sent the crab to attack Hercules, he kicked it so hard it landed in the sky

11 Leo  The Lion  July 23 – Aug 22  Nemean Lion killed by Hercules as one of the Twelve Labors

12 Virgo  The Maiden  Aug 23 – Sept 22  Associated with Demeter/Ceres, goddess of wheat/agriculture

13 Libra  The Scales  Sept 23 – Oct 23  Latin for “weghing scales” or “balance”  Held by the goddess of justice, Astraea

14 Scorpio  The Scorpion  Oct 24 – Nov 21  Scorpion sent to kill Orion  Turned into a constellation by Zeus

15 Sagittarius  The Centaur Archer  Nov 22 – Dec 21  Latin for “archer”  Often identified as the centaur Chiron, tutor to Jason
